Little Sunshine Seeds

how it all began

"How will I share my sunshine flowers?"

The question that started it all.

In 2023, 3-year-old B got upset when she found out that her sunflowers were wilting and wouldn't last forever.

The solution: save seeds from the flowers so that she could share with friends and family.

fun facts about little sunshine seeds:

Grown by B

B is in charge of her own flower beds! With a little help from her Mama, B plants, waters, weeds and picks the seeds.

From planting to packaging - these are B's Little Sunshine Seeds.

Open Pollination

Grown out in our garden, all of the flowers go through open pollination.

Open-pollination is when pollination occurs by insect, bird, wind, humans, or other natural mechanisms.

This leads to plants that are more genetically diverse, which allows plants to slowly adapt to local growing conditions and climate year-to-year.

Because of this, the flowers produced from these seeds may not be identical in colour to the parent plant.

Picked by Hand

After the flower heads dry up and all the petals have fallen, seed pods are formed (in some species).

B picks them from the pods and counts them out to package them!

What's in a name?

Little Sunshine Seeds has a few meanings.

1. When B was a baby and in the NICU, her Mama wrote her a lullaby - a version of You Are My Sunshine.

2. Sunshine Flowers = Sunflowers. A favourite of B's.

3. B has always loved her Sunshine Flowers. She also loves sharing good vibes with others. Her seeds are how she does that!
